Terms & Conditions
(1) DURATION & TIMING: The quotation remains valid for 90 days and is thereafter subject to confirmation. Job commencement and completion dates are approximate only and may change due to circumstances beyond our control. However all reasonable effort will be made to keep jobs on schedule.
(2) TERMS OF PAYMENT: Terms are strictly payment on completion, unless stated otherwise.
(3) OLD FLOOR COVERINGS: The taking up of old floor coverings staples and tacks etc, is not included unless specified.
(4) RUBBISH REMOVAL: Regrettably, we cannot remove the sanding dust, old floor coverings, etc from the premises unless specified. However, all sanding dust etc will be placed in garbage bags for your disposal.
(5) MOVING OF FURNITURE: All furniture is to be removed from the area to be worked on by the customer prior to our arrival. In the event that circumstances necessitate the moving of furniture, additional charges for this work may be claimed. We shall not be liable for any damage caused to furniture while it is being moved, however all care will be taken.
(6) DISHWASHERS, STOVES and FRIDGES: Dishwashers, stoves and fridges are to be moved and replaced by owners if work is required under them.
(7) FILLING OF GAPS: Filling of gaps between the boards is not included unless specifically stated. We do not recommend the filling of gaps between the boards as due to movement of the boards caused by seasonal expansion and contraction, and structural movement, the filler may work loose, break up and come out to some degree. Also removal of old filler from between the boards is not included unless specified.
(8) FLOORBOARD REPLACEMENT/REPAIRS; DOOR TRIMS; QUAD OR BEADING; SANDING OF DOORSTEPS; GLUE OR WAX REMOVAL: Not included unless otherwise specified.
(9) SKIRTING BOARDS: Due to the necessity for high speed sanding equipment being operated right up to the skirting boards, to achieve the best possible result, some markings may occur on these surfaces. All care will be taken to reduce these markings as far as possible, however no liability can be accepted for any such markings which may occur. Also if skirting boards are installed after new floors are laid do not expect them to sit level with floor without any gaps.
(10) REJECTION OF POLYURETHANE: Some chemical substances eg old wax, polish, oils, silicone and even natural resins in timber may reject polyurethane. We cannot be held responsible if this occurs. Any subsequent recoats necessary to try and rectify this inherent problem may be charged for.
(11) RECOATING OF EXISTING POLYURETHANE FINISHES: Due to not knowing what has been applied to the floor in the past, including the build up of any contaminants which may affect adhesion (eg fly sprays, oils, waxes, etc) we cannot guarantee adhesion of subsequent recoat(s). However, every effort will be made to obtain the best possible adhesion.
(12) CONTAMINATION OF COATINGS: We cannot be held responsible for any dust or fibres (or insects) which may settle in the coating while drying. However if this does occur, it usually wears off after a relatively short period of time. Every effort will be made to eliminate this problem as far as possible.
(13) COLOUR STAINING AND TINTING: Colour staining may highlight fine sanding scratches that would not normally be noticed under a clear finish. Due to the difficulty of obtaining an even colouring over the entire floor surface, some unevenness of colour and/or lap marks may be evident. However, every effort will be made to eliminate this as far as possible.
(14) MOVEMENT OF TIMBER: As timber is a natural product we cannot be held responsible for expansion or contraction of timber due to climatic or other conditions (eg: direct sunlight, poor drainage or ventilation, humidity extremes etc).
(15) EDGE BONDING OF FLOORBOARDS: Edge Bonding (or edge gluing) is a condition where the floor coating may glue the edges of the boards together, and if the boards subsequently shrink, uneven gapping and/or splitting of the boards may result. No responsibility can be taken by ourselves if this occurs. Solvent based polyurethanes have the greatest tendency to edge bond. One should consider alternate types of coatings eg: water-based polyurethanes or oil-based finishes which have a reduced tendency to glue the edges of timber together. Please discuss these options with us!
(16) FINISHING: Unless otherwise stated, coatings will be a gloss finish. Also areas filled with filler, damage by termite or borer, or dry rot, will not have the same gloss level or feel as the rest of the floor. “Downlights” may produce a “cobweb” effect on the coatings.
(17) COLOUR VARIATION IN TIMBER: Different types of old floor coverings, ‘Black Japan’, old coatings or wax may produce a “2 tone” effect on some older timbers which cannot be sanded out, and may not be evident until coatings are applied. Do not expect the removal of stains from within the timber such as water stains, animal urine stains, rust stains around nail-holes, etc. However, every effort will be made to sand out the stains as far as possible. Do not expect the removal of deep cuts from carpet trimming knives or deep gouges in timber. There is likely to be some colour variation between old & new flooring including repairs using old ‘re-cycled’ timber.
(18) TOXICITY: It is the customer’s responsibility to protect humans, pets. plants & foodstuffs from being poisoned by toxic fumes emitted from solvent based floor coatings & to restrain pets etc from damaging coatings while drying.
(19) CURING OF COATINGS, MOVING IN & FLOOR CARE: Floor coatings can be walked on carefully in socks only, once dry (usually after 24 hours, weather depending). However allow sufficient time for coatings to ‘cure’ before replacing furniture & subjecting floor to normal wear. Time required depends on type of coating & climatic conditions, but as a guide allow 3 to 7 days. Place mats at entrances, felt pads under furniture legs, coaster cups under wheels & do not drag or wheel furniture into place. Follow a regular maintenance program.
(20) ASBESTOS: Pre 1990 building materials including linoleum & vinyl floor coverings as well as asphalt & rubber backings & adhesives may contain asbestos. Certified testing is required before any sanding work can commence.
